Medical Staff Officers Elected

Ormond Beach, FL (December 16, 2008) ---The following physicians have been elected by their peers to the medical staff of Florida Hospital Ormond Memorial through 2010.

 

Andrew H. Ritter, MD, has been elected chief of staff. Dr. Ritter is board certified in colo-rectal surgery and general surgery by the American Board of Surgery. He fulfilled a fellowship in colo-rectal surgery at Greater Baltimore Medical Center, completed a residency in general surgery at Brown University in Rhode Island and an internship in general surgery at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. Dr. Ritter earned his medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York.

 

Suresh D. Desai, MD, has been elected chief of staff elect. Dr. Desai is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, American College of Physicians and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Currently, Dr. Desai serves as medical director of the Respiratory Department at Daytona State College in Daytona Beach. He has served as medical director of the Pulmonary Department for Florida Hospital Ormond Memorial and on the board of directors for the Florida Medical Association. Dr. Desai earned his medical degree from Durban Medical School in Durban, South Africa.

 

Ronald. R. Rasmussen, MD, has been elected secretary/treasurer. Dr. Rasmussen is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. He fulfilled a general surgical residency from the Grand Rapids Area Medical Education Corporation in Grand Rapids, Michigan, earned his medical degree from Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine. Additionally, he graduated cum laude from the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic.


James M. Bryan, MD, has been elected chairman of the Department of Surgery. Board certified through the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, he is in private practice with the Orthopaedic Clinic of Daytona Beach. Dr. Bryan fulfilled a fellowship in sports medicine at the University of Florida, completed an internship and residency in orthopedics at Rush-Presbyterian – St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago and earned his medical degree from Rush Medical College. At the University of Florida, Dr. Bryan served as an assistant team physician for the university’s athletic teams.


Hezi Cohen, MD, has been elected chairman of the Department of Medicine. Board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, Dr. Cohen is in private practice with A Healthy Place, P.A. Dr. Cohen completed a residency in family medicine through the University of Florida and Halifax Medical Center. He earned his medical degree from the University of Miami.
