ORANGE CITY, Fla., November 22, 2013 – On Friday, October 25, approximately 120 choral students from University High School presented the World Music Concert to a crowd of 300.
Not only was the music by the Orange City teens uplifting, but so was the purpose of the concert. Twenty percent of the donations raised by this event will be donated to Florida Hospital Fish Memorial to fund screening mammograms and diagnostic breast imaging for local women in need.
“It is very touching that the students did this for their community,” said Debi McNabb, Florida Hospital Fish Memorial Director of Marketing and Foundation.
Terrance L. Lane, University High School choral department director, was inspired to host this charity concert for Florida Hospital Fish Memorial because his aunt, a DeLand resident, is a two-year cancer survivor.
"I believe that music is healing for the body, mind and soul,” said Lane. “Breast cancer awareness is such an important matter. I asked my students to stand if they had a family member affected by breast cancer and 90 percent of them stood-up. I wanted to do something to get them to start thinking about their health, both males and females, as many males were not aware that they could possibly develop breast cancer."
Vicki Lowry was the accompanist while the Concert Chorus sang the “Star Spangled Banner” and General Chorus sang “Music Alone Shall Live” and “Cantate Domino.” The Women’s Choir sang “B’l Shlosha,” “Bora Maisha,” and “Shiru L’Adonai.” The Concert Chorus and Women’s Choir sang “Deo Dicamus Gracias” and “What a Wonderful World.” The Concert Chorus sang “Viva L Musica,” “Call to Remembrance” and “Wait on the Lord.”
